Great Britain’s Jodie Swallow kicked off her 2016 season by successfully defending her Ironman 70.3 South Africa title for the fifth year in a row, and she did so in dominant fashion. Swallow crossed the finish line in 4:23:29, nearly 20 minutes ahead of the runner-up.

“I had some shitty luck last year with over training and then the crash [before 70.3 Worlds], but in life comparisons I am blessed to be healthy and happy so it is time to get over it and move forward,” Swallow said in a Bahrain Endurance 13 team press release. “So happy to retain my sixth title here, a race thoroughly suited to me. But ‘the second hardest 70.3’ in the world is never easy.”

South Africa’s Matt Trautman took the men’s title in 4:01:53. Read a complete race recap at Ironman.com.
