Reigning ITU and Ironman 70.3 world champion Javier Gomez again showed his ability to transition flawlessly from drafting to non-drafting competition with a victory at today’s Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire in England. Great Britain’s Lucy Gossage turned in a solid performance to take the women’s title.
Gomez put together a 23:34 swim, a 2:20:57 bike and a 1:13:32 half-marathon to take the victory in 4:02:13. Germany’s Markus Thomschke was impressive on the bike, earning the runner-up spot at 4:07:33. France’s Romain Guillaume got the bronze position at 4:09:07.
Gossage took the convincing 4:31:09 victory thanks to a 29:33 swim, 2:29:54 bike and a 1:26:45 run. Great Britain’s Susie Cheetham claimed second just over 10 minutes later at 4:41:28. New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner was third at 4:46:36.
