South Africa’s James Cunnama and Australia’s Annabel Luxford were victorious at today’s Ironman 70.3 Cozumel in Mexico. The race welcomed several athletes who competed in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship two weeks ago, with most of them looking to capitalize on the late-season peak fitness.
Cunnama earned the victory in 3:44:06, narrowly ahead of 70.3 world championship runner-up Terenzo Bozzone (NZL), who finished second in 3:44:46. American Matt Chrabot also had a great day, rounding out the top three in 3:45:27.
Luxford, who finished third in Vegas two weeks ago, had an impressive swim and bike to claim the 4:09:58 victory. Recently crowned 70.3 world champion Melissa Hauschildt (AUS) came out of the water over four minutes back of Luxford and others, making for a day of battling on the bike and run. She posted the fastest run split of the day to earn the second spot in 4:13:12. Olympian Daniela Ryf (SUI) rounded out the top three.
