The World Triathlon Corporation publicly responded today, Nov. 2, 2010, to the numerous complaints surrounding Saturday’s Ironman 70.3 Miami event with a press release.
Frustrations from participants on the Ironman 70.3 Miami facebook page range from lack of water at aid stations to concerns about the course. As is the case in some Ironman and 70.3 races, the event was not put on by the WTC and was instead run by an outside organization. In response to the feedback, the WTC says it will be taking over the event for 2011. The release also says WTC will give athletes who competed in Saturday’s race a complimentary entry to a 70.3 event. Participants can choose from a selected list of 2011 events, including the Miami race.
According to the press release, the organization is choosing to make these changes “in an effort to restore full confidence in the quality, safety and overall experience in this event.”
