A spokesperson for Gordon Ramsay tells Triathlete.com today that the celebrity chef no longer plans to compete in the 2014 Ironman World Championship due to an Achilles injury he suffered during preparations for upcoming races.
“Gordon is disappointed that he is not going to be able to participate in either of the two Ironman events due to an injury he has sustained off the back of extensive training,” the spokesperson said. “He was due to compete in Ironman Wales [this Sunday] and the Ironman World Championship in October, but following an injury and subsequent ultrasound at the beginning of the week, he has been diagnosed with a severe tear of his Achilles tendon. He has been advised by his specialist not to participate in any sporting activities to avoid risking more serious long-term damage. He is extremely frustrated to not be taking part, but hopes for a quick recovery and to be able to compete again next year.”
Ramsay finished the 2013 Ironman World Championship in 14:04:48, and at a swim training session in August said he was training 25 hours a week with the goal of beating last year’s time.
