Great Britain’s Daniel Halksworth and Elmear Mullan took the victories at today’s Ironman UK in Bolton, England.

Men
Great Britain’s Harry Wiltshire exited the water at 47:55 with Halksworth right on his heels. Great Britain’s Fraser Cartmell, who won this race in 2010, was the only athlete to post a sub-five hour bike split and started the run in first place with a slim lead over Halksworth. Cartmell wasn’t able to keep Halksworth behind him as the 26-year-old had the faster run legs. Halksworth’s 47:56 swim, 5:00:23 bike and 3:03:20 marathon earned him the 8:55:11 victory. Cartmell finished second at 9:07:00. Great Britain’s Paul Hawkins took the final podium spot.

Women
American Amanda Stevens led the women out of the swim in 48:19. Her lead was an impressive 15 minutes over the next fastest female professional, Mullan. Mullen pushed the pace on the bike in an effort to catch Stevens, but the deficit from the swim was too much. Stevens entered T2 in first with Mullan remaining in second. Stevens struggled on the run and faded to second. Mullan took the win in 10:08:44. Stevens was next at 10:16:57, followed by Germany’s Annett Kamenz in third.
