Former ITU star Tim Don (GBR) showed his ability at long-course racing, while Heather Wurtele (CAN) earned a victory in her home country at today’s Ironman 70.3 Calgary.
Don combined a 22:09 swim, a 2:05:23 bike and a 1:14:49 to pull off the impressive 3:42:21 victory. Trevor Wurtele (CAN) also had a stellar day and finished just over 30 seconds back for second. Bermuda’s Tyler Butterfield kept the podium close, finishing less than a minute back of Wurtele for third.
Heather Wurtele’s day consisted of a 26:01 swim, a 2:21:54 bike and a field-leading 1:23:47 run for the 4:11:42 win. Fellow Canadian Rachel McBride led off of the bike, but couldn’t hold off Wurtele for the top spot. She finished second just over two minutes back. Mandy McLane rounded out the top three at 4:14:11.
