Canada’s Cody Beals and the United States’ Sarah Haskins claimed the victories at today’s Ironman 70.3 Eagleman in Cambridge, Md.
Men’s Race
American Barrett Brandon led out of the swim at 26:08, with American TJ Tollakson (55 seconds back) and Beals (2 minutes back) as the closest competitors. Beals then hammered through the bike in 2:01:58 to earn a lead of 2:45 over Tollakson and 6:24 over American Jordan Rapp to start the half-marathon. Beals continued his stellar race, rounding out the day with a race-best 1:19:11 run split to claim the victory in 3:51:05. Rapp was second at 4:01:40, with Brandon claiming third in 4:02:50.
Women’s Race
American Lauren Brandon was the first women into T1 thanks to the best swim time of the day, men or women, of 26:02. Haskins was second in 26:34. After the two Americans was a large gap to Americans Jessica Chong (7:37 back) and Heather Leiggi (7:38 back). Haskins used a 2:19:10 bike split to earn a 45-second lead over Brandon to start the run. Brandon struggled in the final leg of the race, allowing Haskins to cruise in for a dominant 4:16:43 victory. Leiggi was second in 4:28:04 and Sarah Piampiano (USA) finished third in 4:29:45.
