Cape Charles, Va. will play host to the inaugural Eastern Shores 140 ultra-length triathlon on Sept. 7, 2013.
The event will feature a course that has been carefully crafted and will push competitors to their physical and mental limits as they swim, cycle and run over 140 miles in a single day.
The ES140 will begin with competitors swimming 2.4 miles in the historic Chesapeake Bay. Following that leg of the race, athletes will transition to their bikes for a 112-mile out and back cycling leg along the Eastern Shore’s scenic back country roads.
Finally, they’ll cap a long and grueling day by running a full 26.2-mile marathon that begins and ends in downtown Cape Charles.
The Eastern Shore 140 is the brainchild of race director Don Mann, a Navy SEAL and former world-class triathlete himself.
“For many years I visited and trained here. I developed an appreciation for the area. When I purchased my home on the Eastern Shore I knew this would be the perfect place to host an ultra-length triathlon,” says Mann.
