As the 70.3 and Ironman qualifying season starts to wind down, several top names turned up in Racine, Wisc. Sunday to race for their share of a $60,000 prize purse and a final shot at some KPR points ahead of the July cutoff date. Ultimately it was Canadians Lionel Sanders and Heather Wurtele who walked away with the victories.

Men’s Race
Sanders spent the day working his way through the field, putting him at 16th out of the swim, second off of the bike and first at the finish line. His 3:49:41 victory was a combination of a 26:21 swim, a 2:03:53 bike and a 1:15:46 run. American Matt Chrabot posted the fastest run of the day at 1:15:00 to claim second in 3:51:57. Just one week removed from racing at Challenge Roth, American Andrew Starykowicz led off of the bike and then hold on through the half-marathon to finish in third at 3:52:13.

Women’s Race
Wurtele was solid across all three disciplines, posting a 25:37 swim, a 2:17:58 bike and a 1:24:39 half-marathon to take the win in 4:12:18. Fellow Canadian Angela Naeth was Wurtele’s closest pursuer through much of the day and she ultimately finished in second at 4:16:48. American Jackie Hering turned in a blazing 1:20:58 run split to claim the final podium spot in 4:17:39.
