Early selection means Kahlefeldt can focus on peaking for the Olympics at the right time.

Brad Kahlefeldt has his sights set on London after being nominated for selection to the Australian Olympic team yesterday.

In town to compete in Wagga’s Greatest Athlete at Bolton Park on Saturday, Kahlefeldt announced he will get a second shot at the Olympic level after proving himself to Triathlon Australia this year.

Ecstatic with his early nomination, the Commonwealth Games gold medalist yesterday revealed the chance to wear the green and gold in London is overwhelming.

“It’s just nice to know now what I’m working towards, that way I can focus on what I need to be doing,” he said yesterday. “This way I can properly prepare for one event and aim to peak at the right time.

“I’m very proud to get a second chance at the Olympic level.”

Having placed 16th overall at the Beijing Games in 2008, Kahlefeldt is eager to chase down a podium finish in London in August.

Although Kahlefeldt’s selection is subject to ongoing fitness, he is confident he has what it takes to ensure selection in the Olympic team when it is officially announced in June.

“I’ve just got to prove my fitness and I’m all good to go, and obviously I’ll be aiming to do that anyway,” he said.
