New Zealand’s Terenzo Bozzone and Australia’s Melissa Hauschildt walked away with the victories at Sunday’s Ironman 70.3 Mandurah in Western Australia.

Though the season is winding down in the United States, it is just heating up in Australia and athlete’s like Bozzone and Hauschildt, who have both shown peak late-season fitness, are taking full advantage and gaining valuable points toward 2014.

Bozzone faced a tough field, turning in a 21:15 swim and a 2:03:20 bike to stay in contention to start the half marathon. It was his field-best 1:15:52 run split that gave the 70.3 world championship runner-up the 3:42:59 victory. Australia’s Tim Berkel was also in a strong spot day, finishing second in 3:44:31. It was another Australian, Sam Appleton, rounding out the top three at 3:45:02.

Two-time 70.3 world champion Hauschildt continued her strong streak and dominated the women’s race in Mandurah. She came out of the water in a strong 23:39 and then outbiked (2:14:23) and outran (1:22:49) the entire women’s field to earn the 4:03:46 victory. Fellow Australian Annabel Luxford, who has seen recent success at the 70.3 distance, finished second in 4:07:15. The Czech Republic’s Radka Vodickova rounded out the podium at 4:10:20.
