A trio of Kona-bound stars – Terenzo Bozzone, Chris McCormack and Cam Brown – used this Sunday’s Ironman Philippines 70.3 as a well-timed tune-up for the Big Island. Hot and humid conditions made this inaugural event a perfect appetizer for the conditions in Kona. Bozzone seemed the least bothered by the tough conditions and managed to pull away on the run. McCormack stayed with Bozzone for the swim and bike, but faded on the run and finished one minute behind the Kiwi. Brown finished just 13 seconds back of McCormack.
In the women’s race, Lisa Bentley found herself nearly four minutes back of Gina Kehr after the swim and was unable to make up any ground on the bike. Bentley entered T2 still four minutes behind Kehr but the Canadian quickly began to make up ground as soon as she started running. Bentley caught Kehr and went on to win by 42 seconds. Aussie Charlotte Paul finished third, four minutes behind Kehr.
