Vincent Luis and Katie Zaferes maintained their Super League Tri Series leads after another fast-paced weekend of racing.

Culminating in the Women’s Sprint and Men’s Sprint Enduro (300m swim, 5K bike, 2K run x2), the lead changed several times over the weekend, keeping the Mallorca crowd gripped right up until the last minute of the final race. The race featured a fun “short chute” option, which let atheltes choose when they could take a shortcut on the run leg.

Taylor Spivey (USA) won the women’s race, with Katie Zaferes (USA) and Kirsten Kasper (USA) making it an all-American podium. “That was so hard, it was really exciting, and the short chute mixed it up, but gave me a real advantage today,” Spivey said. “I didn’t feel too strong at all throughout the race, but towards the end of the bike I could tell the other girls were hurting. I saved the short chute until the last lap as I knew I wanted to give them minimal time to chase.”

In the men’s race, Vincent Luis (FRA) continued his domination, with Henri Schoeman (RSA) and Jonny Brownlee (GBR) finishing second and third, respectively. “That was a tough race, I had to focus on Henri and Jonny, and Jonny was really strong,” Luis said after his victory. “He played his card, taking the short chute early, and when he did I knew it was full gas until the end. I still have a good kick, so with 300m to go I went full gas, and he couldn’t catch me. I thought to myself, he played his card, so now I will play mine.”

At the end of the weekend (which also included a Triple Mix race), Katie Zaferes and Vincent Luis maintained their leads in the series. Super League now heads into a mid-season break following a fast-paced weekend of racing in Mallorca.
