American Andy Potts led out of the swim in a time of 22:14, with Brazil’s Igor Amorelli (23:05), New Zealand’s Callum Millward (24:35), Griffin (24:38) and others chasing. Potts enjoyed his lead out front through most of the bike, but he suffered a mechanical and lost significant time. Amorelli took over the lead and held a 3:18 gap over Griffin to start the run. Griffin quickly cut into the Brazilian’s advantage and earned the front spot before the midpoint of the run. He used a 1:16:44 run split to earn the 3:53:46 victory. Amorelli maintained a steady pace and finished second at 3:56:59. American Chris Leiferman had a breakout result, finishing third at 3:59:19. Potts posted the fastest run split of the day to claw his way back to fourth.
Women’s Race
Super swimmers Amanda Stevens (USA) and Alice Henriques (USA) were the first two out of the water at just over 24 minutes. The United States’ Dede Griesbauer and Chile’s Valentina Carvallo followed less than a minute later. Main contenders Hauschildt and Linsey Corbin (USA) came into T1 2:30 after the leaders. Hauschildt and Corbin were the big movers on the bike. By the midway point, Hauschildt had earned the lead, with Carvallo at 46 seconds back and Corbin at 2:06 back. Hauschildt only got stronger from there, grabbing a 3:12 advantage over Corbin to start the run. The two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion went on to post the fastest run of the women (1:22:39) to claim the 4:12:52 victory. The result was the seventh fastest overall time of the day.
