Amorelli, Gross Take Victories At Ironman Brazil

Igor Amorelli became the first Brazilian athlete to take the title, while Sara Gross had a breakout performance to take her first full win.

Igor Amorelli became the first Brazilian athlete to take the Ironman Brazil title, while Canada’s Sara Gross had a breakout performance to take her first Ironman win.

Amorelli capped off his day with a 2:52:07 marathon to edge out fellow Brazilian Santiago Alves Ascenco. Ascenco earned the runner-up spot, with Spain’s Marcel Zamora rounding out the top three.

Gross put together a 55:41 swim, a 4:49:42 bike and a 3:06:12 marathon to be the only female pro under nine hours at 8:56:35. Belgium’s Sophie Goos finished second at 9:00:21. Arian Monticeli was the top female Brazilian in third at 9:02:44.
