Belgium’s Bart Aernouts and Switzerland’s Daniela Ryf claimed the 70.3 European Championship titles today in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Aernouts combined a 24:06 swim, 2:22:23 swim and a 1:15:26 half marathon to claim the win in 4:05:27. Australia’s Peter Robertson used a race-best 1:13:15 run split to earn the runner-up spot. Germany’s Maurice Clavel was right on the heels of Robertson, finishing in third.

Ryf had a solid all-around day, but it was her 2:36:42 bike split that closed the door on the competition. She backed that up with a 1:21:44 run split to take the dominant 4:26:12 victory against a tough field. 2012 Ironman and 70.3 world champion Leanda Cave earned second at 4:34:50, with Germany’s Laura Philipp rounding out the top three.
