For the second year, Waco, Texas played host to athletes from around the world on Sunday at the 2019 Ironman 70.3 Waco triathlon. Sam Appleton (AUS) and Jackie Hering (USA) took top honors with finishing times of 3:47:15 and 4:18:29, respectively. The elite race concluded with plenty of drama as Kearci Smith was disqualified for grabbing the family dog and crossing the finish line with her. In addition to the elite athletes, 2,300 age groupers representing all 50 states and 20 countries, regions, and territories. The event began with a 1.2-mile swim in the Brazos River, followed by a 56-mile bike ride that guided athletes past Waco Lake and through the Waco Wetlands, capped off by a two-loop 13.1-mile run in the heart of historic Central Texas.
