Action kicks off Saturday with the women’s race featuring Jessica Broderick (University of Colorado; Boulder, Colo.), Julie Rechel (University of Richmond; Richmond, Va.) and Kaitlin Shiver (University of Florida; Gainesville, Fla.).
Broderick, who was 12th at the 2010 World University Championship, won the 2009 and 2010 USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship titles and owns three career top-10 ITU Pan American Cup finishes. Rechel is a two-time podium finisher at Collegiate Nationals and was ninth in her draft-legal debut at the 2011 Myrtle Beach ITU Pan American Cup. A member of USA Triathlon’s Project 2016 program, Shiver won USA Triathlon’s collegiate and under-23 national titles in 2011 and was fourth at Under-23 Worlds a year ago. One of the top swimmers in the sport, McLarty makes his second trip to the FISU World University Championship after finishing first and second at 2012 and 2011 Collegiate Nationals, respectively. Pedersen, a standout runner in college, is coming off a career-best sixth-place finish at the June 2 Dallas ITU Pan American Cup. Visit triathlon.org for a complete men’s start list.
