Ironman announced today that the Ironman 70.3 and Ironman Vineman races will shift in venue to Santa Rosa, Calif. The 2017 Ironman 70.3 Santa Rosa triathlon will take place on May 13, with the 2017 Ironman Santa Rosa triathlon following on July 29.
Ironman 70.3 Vineman has always been one of the most popular races on the 70.3 circuit, selling out within a few minutes of registration opening each year. Until last year, it was a licensed event that was put on by Vineman, Inc. Ironman formally purchased the race and the full-distance Vineman (making it Ironman Vineman) in October of 2015.
The swim for both races will shift from Johnson’s Beach at the Russian River to Lake Sonoma. Athletes will ride through the rolling hills of the famous wine country, and on portions of the old Vineman courses, before arriving at T2 in the City of Santa Rosa. Both the half-marathon and marathon will use the City of Santa Rosa Creek Trail System before finishing in downtown Santa Rosa.
“We are thrilled to formally bring Ironman to Santa Rosa,” said Jonathan Coe, President of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce. “Ironman represents the pinnacle of endurance sports. We are proud to be able to showcase this world-class event in our beautiful city.”
