James Lawrence sets his sights on completing 30 Ironman races in 2012—and landing in the pages of Guinness World Records.
LINDON, Utah County — Triathlete James Lawrence is in serious training mode, head down, brow furrowed, eyes glazed but focused, determined to gut it out or collapse trying.
And when he’s finished?
He’ll ride his bike to Lehi and back, or swim a mile, or go on a nice long run.
“It’s the logistics that’s the hard part,” says James as he looks up from the laptop computer that sits on the kitchen table that doubles as his office. “That’s the real workout.”
The logistics he’s talking about involve organizing a yearlong schedule for next year — 2012 — that will take him to no less than 15 countries where he hopes to compete in 30 full-distance Ironman triathlons.
When the year is done he will be one of two things: (1) the world record-holder for Ironmans completed in a year, or (2) comatose.
