USAT Elite Duathlon Nationals Set For Saturday

With some of the nation's top multisport athletes in the field, USA Triathlon's Elite Duathlon National Championship will be held Saturday.

With some of the nation’s top multisport athletes in the field, USA Triathlon’s Elite Duathlon National Championship will be held Saturday in Pelham, Ala., in conjunction with the Powerman Alabama Multisport Weekend at Oak Mountain State Park.

The elite national titles will be decided over a 10-kilometer run, 40-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer run course with an 8 a.m. Central start time. Visit Usatriathlon.org for complete event coverage.

Among the elite athletes slated to compete for the $10,000 prize purse are 2011 USA Triathlon Elite Duathlon National Championship title winners Nicole LaSelle (Dayton, Ohio) and Matthew Russell (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who went on to place ninth and fifth, respectively, at 2011 Duathlon Worlds. In all, eight of the 10 elite U.S. athletes that competed at the 2011 ITU World Duathlon Championships are on the start list for 2012 nationals.

Also in the field is Eneas Freyre (Norwalk, Conn.), who makes his elite debut after winning the overall age group duathlon world title in 2011 en route to USA Triathlon Duathlete of the Year honors. Visit Team-magic.com for more on the elite field.

In addition to Elite Duathlon Nationals, the Powerman Alabama Multisport Weekend also features the PowerKids Duathlon on Saturday and the Powerman Alabama Duathlon and Double Oak Duathlon on Sunday.
