Athletes and their friends and family will be able to watch a virtual recap of this weekend’s USA Triathlon National Junior Olympic Festival through Zumtri.com.
ZumTri is a new web-based Flash application that shows a virtual race, complete with swimming, cycling and running animations of athletes competing against each other on a map of the course. The technology converts chip-timing results into an interactive race visualization by calculating the athlete’s pace to estimate positions throughout the race.
Athletes can try the application right now by watching the 2008 race results visualization by typing in an athlete athlete to watch, or select “choose for me.” They have the option to also select friends or rivals.
Since last year’s results are the best measure for what will happen this year, athletes can create a goal racer to see how their goal time would likely measure up against the field. To do this, select “Goal” in the lower left hand side of the application.
Along with with animations, the scoreboard provides information like race time, speed, overall place, age-group place and place among friends and rivals. Beyond the race graphics, participants can also look at several charts and graphs to help them analyze their ranking for each leg, and where they fit in the overall time of the race. Athletes can also bookmark and share their race results through common social networking services.
