Janelle Morrison, a professional triathlete from Calgary is responding well in a Kamloops hospital following a second surgery to repair “massive” internal and external injuries suffered in a horrific two-vehicle collision Sunday in B.C.
“It’s something you can’t describe, walking in and seeing your little girl like that,” said Morrison’s mom, Joy, who works as a nurse in the family’s hometown of Fort St. John, B.C.
“It’s a nightmare, but we’re so lucky she’s alive. The good news is that there’s no known brain damage and no spinal cord damage.”
Morrison, a 33-year-old former Calgary elementary school teacher who moved to Penticton to pursue her goal of becoming a professional triathlete, was involved in a crash with another vehicle west of Revelstoke, B.C., on Sunday, suffering extensive damage to her left side, suffering a ruptured diaphragm, fractured pelvis and multiple broken bones.
