TriRock San Diego takes place this Sunday on the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11. The event has nearly 2,000 participants registered and will be the largest triathlon in the city of San Diego and the second largest in San Diego County, just behind Ironman Oceanside 70.3.

This year the race directors are planning special events designed in honor of 9/11. The race start will include skydivers towing an American flag measuring 30 feet with Coronado Bridge as their backdrop. Also, military veteran and assemblyman Nathan Fletcher (in the midst of a campaign for mayor) will present special race bib number 9-11 to a group of active members of the armed forces.

The swim will take place in the harbor of San Diego Bay, with boat service suspended during the race. Triathletes will then bike onto the Naval Base San Diego and run along the coastline up to the Midway for an out and back course.
