Three days after competing in the Clermont International Triathlon Union’s Pan American Cup race in Clermont, Fla., Kevin McDowell of Geneva, Ill., was diagnosed with the blood disorder. McDowell was 10th competing against the professional men. McDowell won the junior elite race at the 2008 Hy-Vee Triathlon.
On Sunday, friends and teammates of McDowell’s cycled thousands of miles to support McDowell, who will be undergoing treatment instead of competing in triathlons this year. A portion of the money will go to lymphoma research.
