Short-course superstar Sarah Haskins graces the May cover of Triathlete, shot in Tucson, Arizona. Each year, “The Sunshine Factory” plays host to throngs of endurance athletes looking to get a jump on their season training. Photo editor Nils Nilsen takes us on a tour of Tucson’s cactus-framed training grounds, where elite racers like Haskins, Samantha McGlone and the Wassner twins get race-ready.

Nutrition is a big focus in the May issue: Senior Editor Matt Fitzgerald explains the benefits of fueling your body by feel (not by elaborate formulas or schedules) and identifies the steps for achieving your ideal race weight; Editorial Director T.J. Murphy kicks off his juice-fast journey, a first-hand investigation of the benefits–or repercussions–of a juice fast done while in training mode; and the editors present the best, time-tested nutritional products on the market. Newbies to the sport also won’t want to miss our beginner’s 12-week training guide.
