A bicyclist participating in a triathlon at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park was struck and killed Saturday by a man police say was driving drunk — and who already was facing a DUI charge.
When an officer stopped the speeding vehicle, shortly after the 8 a.m. accident on Chamberlain Lane in eastern Jefferson County, the bicycle was still lodged in its windshield. The driver, Kenneth Yates, 25, of the 13000 block of Sure Fire Lane in Louisville, was charged with murder, drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident, assault on a police officer, fleeing and resisting arrest, and operating a vehicle on a suspended license, according to Alicia Smiley, a spokeswoman for the Louisville Metro Police Department.
