This weekend will mark the 10-year anniversary for the Timberman Triathlon Festival. Two-time defending champions Andy Potts and Chrissie Wellington will be racing Ironman 70.3 Timberman to mark the occasion.

Keith Jordan thought it was a match made in heaven, and he certainly set the bar high when he brought the Timberman Triathlon Festival to Gilford for the first time 10 years ago.

“Did I ever think it would grow to be this?” Jordan said. “Obviously, when I started this our goal was to build the biggest triathlon in the world. I think people thought I was kidding.”

What the Timberman is today is no joke.

The event has grown every year, attracted the sport’s top athletes from all over the world, and has been recognized internationally as one of the best triathlons on the planet. Starting Saturday with the Timberman Sprint and closing Sunday with the Timberman Ironman 70.3 race, this weekend marks the 10th anniversary of one of the area’s most prized events.

“It’s pretty amazing,” Jordan said. “It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years. Certainly, the people that have been involved with it have been involved since Day 1, and it’s gone by pretty quick. It’s pretty rewarding and incredible in the same breath.”
