Timothy O’Donnell will be a featured speaker at an event to support local Veterans in his hometown of Wilkes-Barre, Penn. O’Donnell is the current Ironman 70.3 US Champion, the 2011 Ironman US Pro Champion and the 2009 ITU Long Distance World Champion.
The event will be a joint effort of prominent local businesses and Veterans advocacy groups including Team RWB, The NEPA Multi Care Alliance, the Wilkes-Barre VA and Catholic Social Services. All groups are important points of service to help wounded Veterans in North Eastern Pennsylvania and in the case of Team RWB, throughout the United States. Proceeds from the event will go to those organizations.
Like many triathletes, O’Donnell uses his racing as a platform to promote a key charity he’s passionate about – in this case Team RWB.
“I’m really excited to be a part of this project. As a vocal advocate and advisory board member of Team RWB I’m thrilled to come back to my home town and support the many veterans who need help in our community. The innovative ways these groups are working together creates synergies that will make a tremendously positive impact for our community’s wounded veterans. ”
In addition, O’Donnell will speak to two local high school assemblies, providing students with inspiration from his remarkable story: from stand out student/athlete at Wyoming Seminary, his tenure at the United States Naval Academy and service as a US Naval Officer, right up to his current status as a world champion triathlete. “By sharing my journey through school, sports and life with local students I hope to inspire them to reach for the goals, never stop working towards them and most importantly to bet on themselves in life.” O’Donnell said.
