In an interview that appeared on Tennisworldusa.org, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark says that her post-tennis plans include giving triathlon a shot. The current No. 1-ranked player in the world is no stranger to endurance sports (and let’s be honest—tennis is a bit of an endurance sport itself). In 2014, Wozniacki ran the New York City Marathon in an impressive time of 3:26:33, and raised over $80,000 for Team for Kids in the process.
The triathlon revelation came on Sunday in Doha when she was asked what sport she would like to take up after her tennis career.
“I don’t know if I would be good at it, but I think I will try to do a triathlon eventually after I’m done playing,” she replied. “Mostly to keep in shape so I can still eat whatever I want.”
“That’s the main motivation,” she continued. “After doing a marathon, I did a pretty decent time. So I think triathlon would be fun to do.”
Wozniacki wouldn’t be the first top-level athlete to use triathlon to stay in shape after retiring from professional sport. Football star Hines Ward, short track speed skater Apolo Ohno, and race car drivers Jenson Button and Jimmy Johnson (both of whom still drive professionally) have all jumped into triathlon.
