Revolution3 Triathlon, known for its spectator-friendly races in family-friendly locales, recently added another location to its lineup: Old Orchard Beach, Maine. The Olympic-distance (1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run) and Half Rev (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run) will take place on Aug. 26, 2012, located about 30 minutes down the coast from Portland, Maine.
Rev3 partnered with OOB365, the local merchants’ association, to launch the races, which are open for pros and age-groupers to race. Old Orchard Beach is a seven-mile strip of beach along the Maine coastline that has operated for more than 170 years. Family-friendly activities in the area include: weekly fireworks and concerts, fishing, whale-watching tours and top-notch golf. There’s also a pier that’s home to restaurants, shops, games and nightlife, and you’ll also find Palace Playland Park, New England’s only beachfront amusement park.
“Old Orchard Beach is a great addition to our race roster. It’s a beautiful area with a lot of history and OOB365 has been a great partner in helping us to realize the full potential of the location,” said Charlie Patten, president of Rev3, in a press release.
The swim course takes athletes through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, while the bike course winds through the Maine farmland and countryside, shaded by tall pine trees for much of the course. The out-and-back run course is flat and fast, and includes views of the Scarborough Marsh and part of the Eastern Trail. The finish line is located in downtown Old Orchard Beach.
The Maine race joins the Rev3 lineup that includes races in Guanacaste, Costa Rica; Knoxville, Tenn.; Middlebury, Conn.; Portland, Ore.; Sandusky, Ohio; and Anderson, S.C.
