After year off, Alexis Smith set to make her professional return at Wildflower Triathlon.
As a professional triathlete, Alexis Smith became accustomed with pushing her body to extreme measures.
During a stretch between 2001 and 2009, she was competing in up to 12 triathlons a year, and even had the opportunity to compete in the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team trials.
Last year, Smith’s rigorous schedule came to a halt when she became pregnant with her first child. She and her husband welcomed their son Gabriel in August, and it wasn’t long before Smith was back churning out miles on the track, on the road and in the water.
The 36-year-old Seaside, Calif., resident, who competed in her first triathlon at the age of 9, is set to make her return to the sport at the 29th annual Avia Wildflower Triathlons Festival at Lake San Antonio.
“I’m back,” Smith said.
