A sold out field will compete in the Beach2Battleship Triathlon on Saturday in Wilmington, N.C.

Over 2,000 athletes are expected to compete in the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run full iron or half-iron in front of a crowd of over 6,000 spectators on Saturday, Oct. 29.

“One of the great events in Wilmington is the PPD Beach2Battleship Triathlon,” said Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo in a news release. “Not only does the event give us the opportunity to share our quality of life with all of the participants, it also gives us a unique opportunity to showcase all of the wonderful things to do in our city.”

The race begins at 7 a.m. at the southern tip of Wrightsville Beach and finishes at the USS North Carolina Battleship Memorial in downtown Wilmington.

PPD Beach2Battleship organizers estimate that 90% of the attendees will be from out of town and will spend over $1.5 million during their average of a 3.5 day stay. The field of participants represents 43 states and five foreign countries, according to a news release, and the economic impact to the Wilmington community could reach $3.9 million.
