Denmark’s Michelle Vesterby was the star at Sunday’s Ironman Copenhagen, returning to the top of the podium at the women-only professional race after the men got the chance to compete last year. Just three weeks after finishing third at Ironman Austria, Vesterby exited the water out front with a 53:02 swim. She rode hard on her way to a 4:48:03 bike split in cold and rainy conditions, wearing a gap of more than 12 minutes over Corinne Abraham (GBR) and about 20 minutes over Sofie Goos (BEL). Vesterby remained steady to the finish line, crossing in 9:00:10. Abraham crossed in second, with Goos rounding out the top three.
