Australians Chris McCormack and Luke Bell put on a show for local triathletes at Sunday’s Encinitas Sprint Triathlon in Encinitas, Calif. The pair raced neck and neck throughout the entire swim, bike and run. The race ended in a sprint finish with McCormack crossing the line just ahead of Bell.

Prior to the start of the Encinitas Sprint Triathlon, Chris McCormack took a long look at the final stretch of the run course.

“Before the race, I took a look at the finish chute,” the 2007 Ironman Triathlon world champion said. “I thought it could come down to that.”

Consider McCormack a prophet. In one of the closest finishes between pros any North County triathlon has ever seen, McCormack held off fellow Australian Luke Bell by .1 seconds to win a memorable race at Moonlight Beach.
