Belgian paratriathlete Marc Herremans is being featured in a Johnnie Walker advertisement in the United Kingdom.
Herremans finished in sixth place overall at the 2001 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii and set out a goal to one day win the event. On Jan. 28, 2002, Herremans fell off of a dangerous bend while riding his bike. The accident broke Herremans’ back and left him paralyzed from his stomach to his feet. Less than 10 months after his accident, Herremans competed in the 2002 Ironman World Championship using a wheelchair. He continued to race every year until 2006 when he met his goal of becoming world champion. He did so by being the first wheelchair athlete across the finish line.
