The race, which brings in $5.2 million each year to Louisville, will continue for five more years.
The Louisville Sports Commission and the Tampa, Fla.-based World Triathlon Corp. have signed a five-year extension of their 2007 agreement and will continue the Ford Ironman Louisville competition through 2016.
Since the inaugural event in 2007, Louisville has hosted more than 10,000 professional and amateur athletes for the Ironman competition, according to a news release.
The event has an estimated annual economic impact of $5.2 million.
