Recognized as one of the top destination triathlons in the country, the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon Presented by Herbalife is set to celebrate its 10th Anniversary. Sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the L.A. Triathlon is a point-to-point Olympic and sprint distance triathlon traversing scenic and historic Los Angeles.
It is the fourth of the five major triathlons in the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon Series Race to the Toyota Cup. This race Series connects the five prominent International-distance races in the United States and culminates in the Series championship on October 11 in Dallas, TX. The Series awards $390,000 in prizes including a $20,000 bonus for the Series high-point male and female triathlete.
Race day is set for Sunday, October 4, 2009. Professionals’ start time is 6:45 a.m., with elite Amateurs starting at 6:55 a.m. The rest of the age group waves go off at 7:00 a.m. in waves of 150 competitors until an estimated time of 8:15 a.m.
The Los Angeles Triathlon Expo with more than 100 exhibitors and vendors is Friday and Saturday, October 2 and 3 at the Marina del Rey Marriot, 4100 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey, CA.
Recreational, elite and professional triathletes converge on Venice beach at dawn to run into the Pacific Ocean for the first leg of the race. After exiting the water, competitors bike the second leg (24 miles, Olympic Distance) from LA’s West side into Downtown L.A. where the third leg is completed, running 6.2 miles (Olympic distance) to the finish line at LA LIVE! Nokia Plaza. This is a unique opportunity to see Los Angeles landmarks biking and running on a historic course with no cars on the roadways.
