Sunday’s Ironman 70.3 New Orleans will be a duathlon.

The World Triathlon Corporation posted the following announcement on Ironman.com:

Due to forecasted high winds and a wind advisory, the swim portion of the 2012 Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans has been officially cancelled. It will be replaced with a 2-mile run that will begin at 7 AM in front of the UNO Research and Technology Park.

Because of weather concerns today, Saturday, April 21, and expected high winds this evening, bike check-in will close at 7 PM today and is now optional. Bike check-in will resume at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow, race morning, and will continue until 6 a.m.
