Courtney Baird promoted from Senior Editor.

Competitor Group, Inc. (CGI) announced today that Courtney Baird, senior editor at Inside Triathlon, seasoned journalist and accomplished triathlete, has been promoted to editor-in-chief of the magazine. She will oversee all editorial content and manage a deeply talented group of writers, photographers and editors dedicated to the sport of triathlon.
“Courtney has the credibility as a journalist, but also the foresight and instinct to take Inside Triathlon forward,” said Andy Hersam, EVP of Media for CGI. “She has shown herself to be passionate not only about the sport, but about the stories and people who make Inside Triathlon so relevant.”
Inside Triathlon offers readers an inside look at the sport’s upper echelon—it’s premier pros, gear, and races. Anchored in vivid photography and in-depth journalism, Inside Triathlon gives readers access to what the best are doing and how they can be like them. Baird looks forward to strengthening Inside Triathlon’s mandate to uncover the sport’s secrets and provide readers with stories they can’t find anywhere else.
“It’s truly a remarkable time in the world of triathlon and endurance sports,” said Baird, noting USA Triathlon’s membership has grown from 58,073 in 2005 to more than 134,932 this year. “I couldn’t be more excited to take the helm of what I believe is the best magazine in our sport.”
Baird began her career as a sports writer at her collegiate newspaper and went on to serve as research director and copy editor of the Orange County Business Journal. She joined Inside Triathlon in May 2010 as senior editor. Baird received her master’s in journalism from Columbia University and her B.A. in English and B.S. in math from UC Irvine.
