The United States Olympic Committee today announced Gwen Jorgensen has been selected as the female June Athlete of the Month for her record-breaking performance in the ITU World Triathlon Chicago. This is the second month in a row that Jorgensen has earned the honor.
Jorgensen captured her sixth career ITU World Triathlon Series victory in the inaugural ITU World Triathlon Chicago on June 28, making history as the first woman from any country to claim six titles since the series launched in 2009. Jorgensen retains her No. 1 world ranking and also earned her second consecutive USA Triathlon Elite National Championships title.
Each National Governing Body may nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline for USOC monthly honors. A voting panel selects the winners from the pool of nominees with online fan voting via Twitter accounting for 10 percent of the total vote.
