Registration for next year’s Noosa Triathlon sent the event’s website into temporary meltdown yesterday with the sheer number of entrants trying to snag one of the 4000 individual spots.

Event manager USM Events reported they were taking up to 150 entries per minute at one stage once the entries opened at 9am.

All spots were filled by 2.30pm.

A USM Events spokeswoman said the system suffered a “hiccup” for 30 minutes due to the large volume of entrants, but other than that things ran smoothly.

They took to Twitter to inform their 1000-plus followers of the interruptions.

“Apologies for the #NoosaTri rego issues this morning,” they wrote.

A further small allocation will be released in June, dependant on any remaining places that become available through charity, sponsor and international allocations.
