The Chicago Triathlon is quickly approaching. With thousands of athletes ready to swim, bike and run along the city’s lakefront, here are some helpful hints to make your race the best ever.
Before the race:
Packet pick up is on Friday, August 28 from 3:00-9:00pm and Saturday, August 29 from 9:00am – 5:00pm. Packet pick up is at the Chicago Hilton at 720 S. Michigan Avenue. There is no race day pick up.
Pack your race bag on Saturday. It’s easy to forget things when you’re stressed out early on Sunday morning, especially since transition opens at 4:15am and closes at 5:45am.
On race morning:
Pump your tires before you leave or bring your pump with you into transition. Arrive at transition with plenty of time to set yourself up and relax. With thousands of athletes, there will be long lines entering transition and plenty of traffic getting to the area. Avoid extra stress and plan on arriving by 5am. Take note of exactly where your bike and gear is set up. Count rows and racks from each entrance and note any landmark you can to help you find your way. If you need extra help, bring a balloon that will help you find your bike among the masses. Bring extra clothes to wear, and food to eat while you wait for your wave start. Know your wave start. Make sure you know exactly what time you start and what color cap you have to make sure you start with your wave.
