Due to conflict in a bordering nation of the Arabian country of Oman, the Challenge Family announced today it has chosen to cancel the Challenge Oman race, originally scheduled to take place Aug. 7, 2015.

The race had been part of the Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown Series, along with Challenge Dubai (which took place Feb. 27) and Challenge Bahrain (to take place Dec. 5), with anyone who wins all three races in the series earning a $1 million paycheck. The Challenge Family is currently looking for an alternative venue to host the second race in the series and will announce it shortly.

Challenge Dubai champions Daniela Ryf of Switzerland, the reigning Ironman 70.3 world champion and 2014 Kona runner-up, and Terenzo Bozzone of New Zealand, a former Ironman 70.3 world champion, still have a chance at winning the $1 million prize this year.

“While we are disappointed not to be able to showcase the beauty of Oman to the world, cancelling the race and moving the Triple Crown for 2015 is in the best interests of both the athletes and the local community,” said Challenge Family CEO, Zibi Szlufcik in a press release. “Special thanks must go out to His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his inspirational support of the sport which is taking it to new levels around the world. We are very much looking forward to announcing [a] location of the second race of the Nasser bin Hamad Triple Crown Series shortly.”
