Ironman European champion Camilla Pedersen is being kept in a coma due to injuries she sustained in a bike crash on Tuesday night in Esbjerg, Denmark, according to the Danish Triathlon Federation and Ironman. The 30-year-old has been admitted to the intensive care unit at the Odense University Hospital in Southern Denmark and is said to be in critical, but stable, condition. The report states that she suffered skull fractures and bleeding around her brain. According to a press release, Pedersen and her training group were suddenly in a situation with a group of children trying to cross the road in front of them and Pedersen crashed.

She will be kept in an induced coma through the weekend for the maximum possibility of recovery.

Pedersen won July’s Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt, Germany in a time of 8:56:01. She finished the 2013 Kona qualifying year as the 17th ranked athlete and had earned a spot in the 2013 Ironman World Championship.
