Friends of an injured professional triathlete Janelle Morrison raised $25,000 in Calgary on Saturday for the woman who is recovering in hospital after a horrific traffic accident.
Supporters were heartened to hear Saturday that Morrison spoke for the first time since receiving extensive injuries in a two-vehicle accident near Revelstoke, B.C., a week ago. The 33-year-old former Calgary elementary school teacher is in a Kamloops, B.C., hospital.
“She’s doing well,” said Janelle’s mother, Joy. “She whispered to me, ‘I’m a fighter and I’m going to make you proud.’ ”
