Late actor/comedian Robin Williams will largely be remembered most for his performances on television and in movies, but in the endurance community Williams will most be celebrated for his support of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). Williams participated in 11 CAF San Diego Triathlon Challenge events and was a constant contributor to the organization. Williams most recently participated in the CAF Back to Back Cycling Challenge in Northern California in 2012 and was expected to take part in the event again this weekend.
CAF released this official statement about his passing:
“We are deeply saddened by the recent news of the passing of our longtime friend Robin Williams. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all his fans. Over the past 20 years, Robin has been an incredible supporter of the Challenged Athletes Foundation and our mission, participating in our San Diego Triathlon Challenge for 11 years and joining many of our cycling events. He truly found joy in participating side-by-side with our challenged athletes and we cannot thank him enough for the support and energy he brought to our organization.”
CAF set up a memorial fund in his honor. Learn more at Challengedathletes.org/Robin.
