Auckland To Host Two Key ITU Events Over The Next Year

Auckland will host an ITU World Cup event on Nov. 27 and will follow that with the ITU World Championship Series Championship race in October of 2012.

More than $7 million is expected to be pumped into Auckland, with the city set to host two major triathlons in the next 12 months.

Dubbed by organizers as “most significant events post the Rugby World Cup”, they today rolled out plans for the events that are set to attract 7500 competitors aged 16 to 80.

In a surprise announcement, Kiwi triathlon legend Hamish Carter also revealed he would end a six-year absence from the sport by competing in the first of the events – the ITU World Cup on November 20.

The Dextro Energy ITU Triathlon World Champs Series Grand Finale will follow next October.
