We chatted with Alexandra to learn more about the personality behind the beauty:
Triathlete.com: How long have you been competing in triathlons?
Alexandra: I have been competing in Olympic-distance triathlons since 2008.
Triathlete.com: What is your proudest accomplishment in the sport?
Alexandra: I must say I am very proud for each and every race I have completed. I want to thank my fiancé, Steve, who introduced me to the triathlon world for training and supporting me. I will never forget when I signed up with Team in Training for my first official triathlon. I raised money for a little girl Margo Blanc from Paris who had cancer (brain tumor). I really wanted to do something for her and make her smile. Other than being a good swimmer in a pool, I had never run more than 15 minutes on a treadmill, and I had never ridden anything other than a stationary bike. I learned to bike efficiently in only four Sundays before the race in Central Park! When I completed my first triathlon I was in tears. I couldn’t believe that I reached the finish line. I am still honored to race for Margo even though she passed away at the age of 14. I believe she is a star in heaven. I will continue to compete in triathlons and fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. My next race is St. Anthony’s on April 29, 2012. My ultimate goal is to compete in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. I would also like to thank my official sponsor, Fiduciary Insurance.
Triathlete.com: What does it mean to you to move on as a finalist in the contest?
Alexandra: I am really happy and honored to be chosen as a finalist, to be able to represent the sport that is a part of my life and to be considered among all these great hard working triathletes. As an athlete, I really appreciate every moment. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am now and dreaming of participating in many future triathlon competitions.
Triathlete.com: Do you have a background in modeling?
Alexandra: Yes, I have done swimwear and fitness modeling.
Triathlete.com: What do you think you’ll spend your $100 from TYR on?
Alexandra: I have been wanting the TYR Carbon Tank.
Triathlete.com: What do you like to do for fun outside of the sport?
Alexandra: I love to have fun with my Fiancé, my beautiful nieces Maria and Cali, my Mom and our dog Snoopy. I also like to go dancing and singing with my close friends and teammates.
